We made honey toast today. It was sooooo yummy.
We did everything on our own. We put the toast in the toaster, spread the butter and honey ourselves and then we cut the toast.
All that was left to do was to eat it up!!

Rata Assembly

At assembly on Thursday we told everyone about what we've been learning about bee communities. We had a queen bee (Verity), her husband the drone (Ryan), quite a a few princesses and lots and lots of worker bees. We told the audience about all the different jobs that bees do in their community.

Mrs Powell was a busy bee walking around the beehive with a microphone!

By surprise, we got Mrs Church up on the stage too. She got to wear a crown and sit on the throne because she is our 'queen bee' of Rata.

We were lucky enough to have Rhythm Interactive at school.
All of Rata and Rimu blocks went to the hall together and we all had our own drums to play.
We had so much fun making our own music with different beats.
We learnt how to make different sounds by tapping the drum in different places.
Even Miss Koorey had a turn on the drums as well!

Get the Buzz!

Our inquiry topic is about Community.
We are learning all about bees and the community that they live in.

This week we learnt about pollination. We had cotton balls and we rubbed pollen from some flowers so we could see what it is that bees carry back to their hives.
Jack and Hunter are rubbing the
pollen off onto a cotton ball.
Jack managed to get quite a
lot of pollen off his flower.

Verity managed to rub quite
a lot of pollen off her
flower too.

Milly and Daisy are concentrating
on carefully rubbing pollen off.
Hunter is showing us the
pollen he has got on his
cotton ball.

We also had fun pretending to be busy bees flying from flower to flower and pollinating
flowers as we went. We had glitter in our hands
and as we visited a new flower, we mixed our
own pollen with the pollen in someone else's hand.

We learnt that the mixing of pollen on plants must happen so that seeds and fruit develop.
We know that bees are very important little insects because they help plants.

Tessa and Verity were pollen buddies.
You can see how the pollen has been
mixed by both bees.
Hunter and Ryan visited each others
flowers to pollinate them.

TERM 4 is here!!
Welcome back everyone.
We need to remember to bring our sunhats to school EVERY day now. Even if it's cloudy or rainy in the morning, we still need to make sure we have our sunhats in our school bags. If we haven't got our sunhats it means we have to stay under the shade.

WRITING
This week we have been writing about some of the exciting things we did in the school holidays. Here are some of our stories.

In the holidays Hunter came to my house and had some dinner. One night in the holidays me and my dad went to a shop. My dad bought me a Beylade. It was a black one. My brother was sleeping at home.

In the holidays I watched Hotel
                            Transylvania at the movies. It
was cool...really cool. I loved it.

In the holidays we went to Napier. Dad went in the pool three times. I went in the pool four times. Mum watched us in the pool.

In the holidays I went to the movies. It was Hotel Transylvania and it was great. I got a toy called Mavis and when you put her wings out she gets taller. But my brother got the mummy and we all got Wild Wayne.

In the school holidays I picked up my grandma and grandad from the airport. I got lots of presents from them. I got a Broncoes T-shirt and a Skylander top from mum and dad. I am wearing my Broncoes T-shirt today. I went to Ryan's birthday party at the Tawa gym. It was fun at the gym. I banged my bone by my neck and shoulder on a metal bar. It really hurt. I played a game where you jump on a bouncy thing and you have to try to jump onto something higher and try to land on it. It has a soft thing that you land on. I liked my Broncoes T-shirt best.

Last Saturday me and mum bought a wooden pukeko and it has red wings. The colours on its body are blue and white and black. His eyes are white. Then the man told us to wait for five minutes to get the birds done. After that we took our pukeko home and put it in our garden.

We had so much fun in the school production. Some of us were Egyptians, Wiggles and rock and roll dancers.
It was fun learning our dances with other children in Rata Block.
Our costumes were awesome and we think we looked great!
